Wrap the tape around the neck where the top of the collar would be on a dress shirt.
Keep the tape comfortable and flat against the neck all of the way around, and measure at the point of overlap.
This measurement is from the edge of one shoulder, behind the neck, to the edge of the opposite shoulder.
Standing straight with shoulders level, find the outer edge of the shoulder bone, and place the end of measuring tape on this spot. Measure to the same spot on the opposite shoulder.
Tip: Remember this spot, since you will use it for the arm measurement in just a couple of steps.
Make sure the arm is straight.
Find the outer edge of the shoulder bone (the same point used in measuring the shoulder), and measure from that point to the wrist bone. Placing a rubber band around the wrist can make this measurement a snap.
This measures the circumference of the chest at the pectoral muscles.
Wrap around the back, then bring the tape forward underneath the arms and overlap it on the chest.
Be sure that the tape is level across the largest part of the pectoral muscles, that the arms are lowered to the sides, and that the tape is not uncomfortably tight.
Be sure the arm is hanging loose against the side of the body, and the measuring tape is not uncomfortably tight.
This measures the circumference of the stomach and back at the navel.
Whe waist is measured at the level of your hips where you prefer your pants to rest normally.
Move your pants to this level, then slide your pants down half an inch; to make room for the measuring tape, and measure around the waist just above the top of the pants.
Make sure the tape is comfortably snug, and measure at the point of overlap.
Measure around the wrist at the same point you took the arm measurement in the last step — the bone in the wrist.
Measures the circumference at the widest part of the hips.
Empty all pockets. Then, wrap the tape around the seat of the pants at the widest part of the hips, and make sure the tape is level all of the way around. Just like before, measure at the point of overlap.
This measures the distance from the bottom of the shirt collar to the seat of the pants.
First, place your hands over your back pants pocket. Point your thumb straight out, making an "L" shape.
Place the end of the measuring tape at the bottom of the shirt collar. Measure the length from the collar, down the spine, to the outstretched thumbs.
Measures from the front of your pants waist, between your legs, to the back of the pants waist — the measuring tape makes a "U" shape.
Place the measuring tape at the top of the pants in the front (or the top of the belt buckle), pass the tape underneath and between the legs, and back up to the top of the pants waist in the middle of the back.
The tape should not be loose and baggy, but should also not be restrictive or uncomfortable in any way.
This measures the circumference of the top of the thigh.
Make sure all pockets are empty, then wrap the tape around the thigh. Slide the tape up to the top of the thigh, make sure it's comfortably snug, and measure at the point of overlap.
This measures the length of the leg from the waist to the bottom of the heel.
With shoes off, move the pants waist to the level of your hips where you prefer your pants to rest normally.
Make sure to stand straight, and measure from the top of the pants waist, down the leg, to the point where the heel touches the floor.
